[img id="mzl.wbvteffy.320x480-75-200x300.jpg"]I've never attended an Oscar Awards party. In fairness, I'm a Brit rather than some weirdo who's prudish about staying up past oh-my-god 7pm. Still, it's a sad indictment on my cultural nous that I've hosted drinking games (responsible ones) for the Eurovision Song Contest six years in a row and not once watched someone with actual talent win an Academy Award live. While it won't provide the enlightenment required to stop me downing shots (responsibly) to the sound of "Belgique, douze points," Awards Pool 2012 is at least a start.

In an age where pen and paper are but relics, why bother writing a cumbersome list of your winner predictions when Awards Pool 2012 can do the all work instead? The app lets each participant check off his or her predictions from a list of nominees for each award. Then during the awards someone checks off the Master List of actual winners, and when this is complete the app displays how many predictions each player got correct. It's so simple it's almost as if it was designed with (responsible) drinking games in mind.

In an ideal world with an ideal app, maybe there'd be a bit more razzle-dazzle, some helpful information on the nominees beyond the bare minimum, even just some pictures of the stars and their films, but unlike the awards themselves Awards Pool 2012 isn't about the glamour and glitz. It's just a simple, humble aid and accompaniment to this year's edition of the greatest show on Earth. Wait, that's what Americans call the Super Bowl, isn't it? Oh man, this Oscar stuff is a landmine. I think I'll stick to Drambuie and Dana International. In a responsible fashion.
