AdWeek has thoughtfully assembled together links to all 84 TV Spots for the iPhone starting in 2007.
Apple haters like to mantra that Apple is all hype but the reality is that Apple advertising is essentially nearly 100% non-hype. Because the product is so hynotic, people often overlook that Apple’s TV ads are generally 100% about the product without much else on screen without any special effects, acting hystronics or even much art direction. The product is front and center. Here’s what it does. Here’s EXACTLY how you use it.
While other mobile companies try to convince you carrying their phone gets you into the hottest clubs, lets you meet the best looking people, is powered by lightning or can fly you to outer space - the iPhone only promises you how to make calls, find directions or take a photo.
Here’s how you make a call. Here’s how you launch an app. Yep, that’s it. Pretty radical. In other words, the ACTUAL usage of our products speak for itself.
And outside of the words “sequence shortened,” there are no other disclaimers while EVERY other mobile phone when showing video has the disclaimer, “screen image simulated.” Why show a video image as a salient “feature” of that phone when it’s NOT EVEN REAL!
But of course, it’s easier to say the success of the iPhone is hype or marketing so if their budget is smaller than Apple’s (or all they need is more money), then that is what they can blame their lack of success on … when the reality is they simply do not have the guts to bank their success on their actual product doing actual things customers might want to use it for …
