The discount bus line Megabus has created a smartphone app, the first created for bus passengers, according to the carrier.

The app, for iPhone and Android platforms, allows a user to search for tickets and buy them, to manage reservations, to find bus stops and to estimate the arrival time of a bus that is currently on the road.

The features are not yet available for all of the routes from the roughly 70 cities served by Megabus. For now, passengers on the Midwest and Southeast lines can use the app, and the company expects to add the Northeast by June.

Megabus, whose fares start at $1, has long been technology friendly. It introduced free Wi-Fi on its buses in 2008 and also touts its plentiful power outlets.
