Across the nation, sci-fi gaming nerds huddled up outside of gaming shops at midnight to be the first people to get their mitts on BioWare's highly anticipated space-drama, Mass Effect 3.

The $59.99 Mass Effect 3, the latest entry in BioWare's action-RPG sci-fi series, concludes the story arc of the heroic Commander Shepard as she or he (depending on the gender you've selected for the character) attempts to save Earth from the Reapers, an advanced machine race that seeks to eradicate all organic lifeforms.

Mass Effect 3, like Mass Effect 2 before it, builds upon previous game saves. The decisions you've made in previous games carry over to this one, thus continuing the branching tale you've created. This attention to detail and plot has made the Mass Effect franchise one of the most beloved in this console generation. Bioware promises deeper power, weapon, and appearance customization options in this installment.

Mass Effect 3 also features a four-player co-op multiplayer mode that includes missions that can potentially impact the single-player campaign. Gamers who purchase the Xbox 360 version can enjoy compatibility, which allows players to control the battle using voice commands instead of using controller inputs. For example, saying "Open" or "Examine" causes Commander Shepard to interact with his or her environment. Likewise, you can also switch to a new weapon by saying, the shotgun for instance, by speaking "Weapons, Shotgun."

Besides the $59.99 standard edition, BioWare is also selling a $79.99 Mass Effect 3 N7 Collector's Edition that includes a premium metal case featuring both male and female Shepard, a limited edition Mass Effect comic, N7 fabric patch, soundtrack, and other goodies.
