It's a problem most denizens of large cities are familiar with: accidentally stumbling upon a great shop, restaurant, or whatever, then forgetting where it's located. To put it bluntly, it sucks. There are so many places that I'd love to go back and visit again, but I have no idea where they are now. If only there were a way to easily mark and view addresses and coordinates on some kind of mobile device. Wait a minute!

The concept behind Placesaver is simple, just like all JAS Applications' apps. It uses the iOS device's GPS in order to let users mark wherever they might be. A simple tap of the "+" will create a new entry for the device's location which can then be labeled and categorized. Each entry includes a GPS map, actual coordinates (longitude/latitude), and an address. Once created, each entry can be edited or removed whenever the user desires.

Surprise surprise, Placesaver is ridiculously easy to use. Making a new entry takes seconds, and it's only limited by the user's ability to physically reach a location. But it's not just super useful for marking important spots in no time flat, it's also great for sharing them. Each saved entry can be sent to others by way of Twitter, Facebook, SMS or email. So not only will it practically eliminate the unfortunate scenario I've described in the beginning of the review, it also makes telling friends about these special places incredibly simple.

The biggest problem with Placesaver is that its usefulness depends entirely on the individual. I really couldn't see it being a must-have app in more rural areas where people tend to spend much less time aimlessly wandering, for example. It's also not entirely perfect with the placement, most noticeably with the addresses. Say, like having a house number show up as "34" instead of "38." Thankfully the address field can be manually adjusted so it's not a huge problem, and it's not off by much all things considered, but it is off.

As per usual, this is an app with a very specific usefulness. It's not going to see a lot of action under certain circumstances, but chances are people won't bother to download it in the first place unless they'd make use of it. Anyone who can make use out of it, however, will most likely find that it makes their life much easier. At least with regards to finding their way around.
