Offering an attractive and useful way of checking out what's going in the local area, CrowdCloud is a neat and more focused replacement for the likes of Twitter and Facebook, providing the concept spreads.

A brief sign up process via email, Twitter or Facebook details and CrowdCloud is easily accessible by all, immediately detecting any nearby activities. In my case, living in a slightly out of the way place, I had to move the map further afield to gain any insight, at least until I convince friends and family to sign up.

Around the map, icons pop up indicating a report that has been submitted. These are pretty varied in terms of content. While one report might focus on a political news story, another might focus on a local news issue such as a shop robbery. A Things To Do section provides ideas for local events and even impromptu activities that have begun. Traffic reports and hazards are available because no one can beat the knowledge of someone actually stuck in a traffic jam, rather than spectating from afar. It's a similar case for extreme and unexpected weather occurences.

More frivolous things can also be reported on such as celebrity sightings or restaurant offers and recommendations. CrowdCloud is pretty endless in terms of potential.

Extra functionality comes in the form of being able to 'like' certain activies, thus boosting them up the recommendations section of the app. Users can also follow each other for further insight, plus there's the ability to submit their own reports.

CrowdCloud is pretty powerful stuff, for both business owners and consumers, under that simple surface. While it offers a service similar to Facebook and Twitter, the ease in which users can track information makes it an ideal source to take advantage of. Reliant upon new users signing up, the app is growing steadily in the US looking at the amount of submissions there. In terms of Europe though, the service could do with more regular users to make it as useful as its potential suggests.
