Gadget Lab Podcast: Apple's New iPad and Apple TV

On this week’s edition of the Gadget Lab Podcast, we talk about what Apple showed off at its big media event Wednesday: the new iPad and new Apple TV.

Gadget Lab senior editor Jon Phillips and staff writer Christina Bonnington open the show discussing the new iPad, the much-rumored tablet that everyone’s been waiting for. Both got a chance to check out the iPad first-hand on Wednesday. We take a minute to gripe about the name (come on, Apple! “New iPad,” really?), and talk about a few of its brand spankin’ new features, especially its gorgeous Retina Display. Somewhat unfortunately, if you’re already used to using an iPhone 4 or 4S, the pixel-packed screen may not elicit the same wow-factor as when you first gazed upon a Retina Display device.

Next, Jon and Christina talk about the new Apple TV. It’s got the same size and shape as the 2010 version, but streams content in 1080p. The set-top box also features a revamped UI that takes advantage of the extra onscreen space of a 1080p set with elements like large movie poster images you can browse through, and a Genius feature for recommending content.
