Amtel to Help Businesses Avoid “Bill Shock” from New iPad

Solution Enables Businesses to Set Alerts When Users Approach Monthly Bandwidth Limits from the New HD Devices

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--()--Amtel, Inc., the industry’s first integrated solution for managing smart device security and telecom expenses, today announced support for Apple’s iOS 5.1 mobile operating system and the new Apple iPad. The announcement comes in anticipation of the new iPad’s availability on March 16, 2012.

“The new iPad is a breakthrough business tool that will enable businesses to dramatically increase productivity,” said PJ Gupta, CEO of Amtel. “However, with enhanced features such as Retina display with HD, the new iPad will be the most bandwidth consuming smart device ever used by businesses. As a result, companies providing these devices to their employees will find that they quickly exceed the monthly caps of their data plans.”

To help businesses avoid “bill shock,” Amtel TIMS, a combined Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Telecom Expense Management (TEM) solution, integrates with service provider plans to set alerts and notifications on bandwidth consumption throughout the month. When employees reach certain thresholds in monthly bandwidth consumption, alerts can be sent to both the user and the corporate Administrator. The SaaS based service includes an easy interface that enables the Administrator to extend the bandwidth cap of plan for the month or to cut off the data plan when it has reached its limits.

“More than any other device ever used by businesses, the new iPad needs to be thoroughly managed to avoid overage fees and unexpected large bills,” said Gupta. “If an employee streams one HD movie from Netflix, that is enough to put the device over the monthly limit of a 5GB service plan. From that point on, every Gigabit of data consumed by that iPad would be an added cost on top of the monthly service fee at a rate of $10 per Gigabit.”

Gupta noted that the stakes are even higher for employees traveling internationally with a new iPad. “Using the new iPad to stream an HD movie when roaming internationally, could result in a bill as high as $5,000.”

Amtel TIMS provides immediate ROI through drastic reductions in mobile telecom costs. The service also provides comprehensive workflow procurement and inventory updating to simplify and reduce the costs of provisioning of new devices to users. The platform is the only MDM solution that enables enterprises to track, manage and allocate actual carrier expenses for enterprise mobile devices in real-time, instituting mobile policy and generating alerts and spend reports to users based on corporate policies.
