Apple now worth more than double Microsoft’s market value

In NASDAQ trading at 2pm today, Microsoft (MSFT) had a market value of $274.04 billion.

Double that and you get $548.08 billion.

Also at 2pm, the value of Apple (AAPL) was $549.22 billion or more than double the value of Microsoft.

Just look at what Steve Jobs hath wrought!

This milestone reminds us of a quote uttered by a confused man nearly 14 years ago:

What I can’t figure out is why he [Steve Jobs] is even trying [to be the CEO of Apple]? He knows he can’t win.Bill Gates, June 1998

Smirk.

One more thing… Boom!

Buh-bye Death Star!

    1. I never imagined it was possible until the beginning of this year. Too bad Apple couldn’t hold that $549 market cap today.

Well, Friday iPad sales should lock it up when iPad queues stretch around the block. Grand Central Terminal will have an iPad Conga Line snaking around the interior.

  1. Ballmer and his remaining right nut are doing all the right things at Microsoft. He’s not put a foot wrong since he took over the CEO’s role from Bill Gates in 2000. I can’t imagine anyone better running Microsoft right at this moment. The chair makers in Redmond thank their lucky stars every day he sits in the CEO’s office.

    1. You probably haven’t noticed but Microsoft shares are continuing to rise (YTD 25%). Steve Ballmer said that Windows 7 sales were increasing and it certainly looks that way from the share price that Microsoft is laughing in Apple’s face.

      1. An odd comment in the context of AAPL = 2x MSFT. Clearly, Microsoft is growing at nowhere near Apple’s rate. However much they may deserve and/or enjoy success, why in Dow Jones would their laughter be in Apple’s face??

No. They would pick on someone their own size.

  2. People don’t realize that Steve won the PC wars. HP and Dell are doing whatever they can to exit PCs as gracefully as possible. Acer is trying to recover from their bet on netbooks. Lenovo makes less than $10 a PC. Those are the top-4 mfrs of PCs. If that is winning, I’m glad Apple is doing their own thing.

  3. Way to go Apple! We are very proud of you all. You are an inspiration to everyone around the world. We live in very exciting times right now and what you have accomplished here is simply legend! =)
