Graphics software maker Corel today announced the launch of version 6 of its major art and design package, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite. New features and several spruced-up tools give the software more multi-functionality than ever before, especially for print and website designers.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 comprises seven parts: vector and illustration program CorelDRAW, image-editing app Photo-Paint, bitmap converter PowerTRACE, site designing tool Website Creator, screen-capture utility Capture, full-screen browser utility Connect, and an export plug-in utility called PhotoZoom Pro 2.

Some of the most important upgrades to the version 6 package are ones that enable more multi-functionality with the programs. For example, CorelDRAW X6 now includes page numbering, better abilities to change page layout sizes, and a new Lorem Ipsum tool to insert placeholder text, all of which make it a better application for print marketing materials and other page design projects. More fonts are included as well. CorelDRAW also has a few new shaping tools that "smear," "twirl," "attract," and "repel," which speaks more to the creative arts side of the program.

One neat feature to point out is Color Harmonies, which let artists and other creative types select and set a color palette, then "spin" it on the color wheel so that all the relationships between colors stay intact while changing the actual output.

On the Web design side, Corel Website Creator X6 has been enhanced to help non-coders build pages with ease. Dozens of templates and Site Styles remove much of the programming pains of Web design. And an intriguing "tray" workflow lets designers save images and assets that they may want to use later in a nearby collection with thumbnails.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 also now supports 64-bit and multicore machines. In North America, the full version of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 is $499, and the upgrade is available for $199. Commercial and education volume licenses are also available for a lower cost.
