While journaling apps are numerous for the iPad, Taposé hopes to take things a step further by adding in collaborative sharing features. Users can share their journals or selected pages with other users, allowing them to add their own content. There's the ability to add text, draw lines, highlight, add sticky notes, import audio, photos, and video, and even copy and paste freeform portions from other journals. Then, journals can be shared via email, printed, uploaded to Dropbox as a PDF, uploaded to Evernote, or shared with other users. By sending to another Taposé user's email account, they can then view the journal in their own copy of Taposé, with the ability to also edit if permission has been granted.

But oh, the interface of Taposé is a mess. The app starts off with a tutorial journal, full of explanations that make no sense for beginning users. The app relies on a black circle in the bottom corner to switch between a two-panel interface, and to slide up to call up options. This is brand new, but hardly intuitive, and the button in and of itself gives no indication that it should be used for sliding. In fact, sliding upward (in order to access vital options like, well, creating an account) is only explained on one of the pages of the cluttered tutorial journal. When trying to share, it prompts to create an account, but never actually explains where to create an account. The app also crashes on the iPad 2 frequently. Plus there is a severe latency between selecting an input method and when it is enabled., giving the sensation that they don't work until a few seconds later when they actually come up.

This app is just a mess so far. A lot of work needs to go in to making it ready for prime time. The collaborative potential is definitely there, and having the ability to directly import images from the web is useful, but the core usability of the app is just not there yet. This feels like an app still in beta, not a final App Store release.
