Apple's Tim Cook to Open D10 Tech Conference

Apple CEO Tim Cook is slated to make a rare speaking appearance at a non-Apple event next month, kicking off a technology conference.

Apple CEO Tim Cook is slated to make a rare speaking appearance at a non-Apple event next month, kicking off a technology conference.

The Wall Street Journal's AllThingsD today said that Cook will be the opening speaker at its tenth "D: All Things Digital" (D10) conference at the end of May.

It will be Cook's first on-stage appearance at an event not run by Apple or for its investors since he was named CEO last August. Kara Swisher, co-executive editor of AllThingsD, said Cook will provide his perspective on where Apple is headed and how he sees the technology industry evolving.

Cook in mid-February spoke at Goldman Sachs' annual Technology and Internet Conference in San Francisco, where he , and reiterated his belief that tablets will one day outsell PCs.

"The Mac is still growing, and I think it could still grow, but I strongly believe that the tablet market will surpass the unit sales of the PC market," Cook said at the Goldman Sachs event. "It's just a matter of the rate and speed and time that that happens."

Cook's predecessor, the late Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs, attended the D: All Things Digital conference several times, most recently in 2010. During an appearance at the conference in 2007, .

The sold-out D10 conference runs from May 29 – 31 at Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Other speakers this year include New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, and Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz.
