Originally launched for MS-DOS back in 1997 and later as a sequel in 1999, Imperium Galactica 2 is now on iPad and still employs the same resource management style this space real-time strategy game was known for.

The game begins with the player taking on the role of leader of a galactic empire with one goal: to expand. And maybe it's just because I'm in the middle of watching "Battlestar Galactica" from the beginning, but I feel like they have a very similar storyline. Regardless, this RTS is quite elaborate and offers the gamer an extensive game platform for gathering and exploring planetary information, colonizing planets, building an army and waging war.

The game starts on the starmap where the player can control the movement of their fleets and see how far their colony reaches via the red outline. The board is controlled by swiping in any direction to move the camera to that location. They can also pinch to zoom in and out. One of the most useful features is the ability to add way points for ships to patrol along. But don't make them too long or the ship just might not be back in time for an attack.

As I said, this game is very in-depth and requires a lot of attention not just in the air, but also on the ground as there are colonies to build on the planets themselves. Since there are both of these to take care of it is imperative to set auto building priorities and tax rates as well as the above mentioned patrol squadrons. Otherwise, doom is inevitable.

If this is the first time playing a game in the RTS genre then it's going to take some practice to even touch the tip of the iceberg of its gaming potential. Even as a person who has played a good amount, I find myself amazed at how much playing time there is on Imperium Galactica 2.
