New iPhone to have changes to chip, body, screen?

A faster chip, a sleeker body, and a bigger screen – these are among the “rumors” regarding the next generation of Apple’s popular iPhone on various tech sites. CNET cited the reported rumors that surfaced on Business Insider and 9to5mac.com, with Business Insider citing a research note from Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White indicating the next iPhone will have a four-inch screen and a sleek look. Such a sleek look may require a unibody case, the Business Insider report quoted White as saying. The upcoming iPhone is also expected to have 4G (presumably he means LTE) capability, like the new iPad, CNET quoted White as saying. It also quoted White as saying the launch will come in August or September. Another report on 9to5mac.com said Apple is testing a new iPhone disguised in an iPhone 4 case to “throw off leaks.” The 9to5mac.com report said a prototype of the next-gen iPhone uses a derivative of the A5X processor used in the new iPad – along with 1 GB of memory. “Like the A5X-powered iPad, these new iPhone prototypes are packing 1GB of RAM. This prototype is labeled N96 internally, but we’re not sure if this internal codename will carry over to the actual next-generation iPhone. Again, this iPhone that we are describing is an internal-only unit built for testing the performance of a new chip in an iPhone, not an actual phone that Apple will produce,” it said. 9to5mac.com also said Apple is working on a new iPod Touch that may have “major internal changes, at the very least.” — LBG, GMA News
