Flexy Frogs Review

Flexy Frogs is a puzzle game that sees the player flick Flexies across the screen in an effort to join them together, thus forming an actual frog. It’s a strong game, although a sense of repetition does creep in. A couple of control issues can also frustrate, although these don’t happen too frequently.

Every level in Flexy Frogs starts with a number of Flexies scattered about the screen. Touching a Flexy and dragging in any direction will see it stretch, and letting go of the Flexy makes it shoot off in that direction.

The further the player stretches the Flexy the faster it will go. The idea is to join together all the Flexies in the set number of moves mentioned at the start of the level. Obviously things aren’t going to be that simple, and a number of obstacles will be placed in the way of the player. Splitters, for example, will split up any Flexies that have joined together, or kill off a single Flexy.

Every time a Flexy hits some fire the number of turns the player is allowed to take to finish the level decreases by one. There are also barriers, monsters and many more things to overcome. Despite that, repetition does creep in towards the latter half of the game. TikiGames does well to combat this, but with four worlds divided into 25 levels each it was bound to happen – there’s only so much that can be done with the formula.

Sometimes the accuracy the game wants is difficult to achieve with the controls provided. The best example of this I can give is trying to aim a Flexy through a gap. More often than not (unless the player is eagle-eyed), the Flexy will hit the edge of the gap and bounce off elsewhere. Annoying in easier levels, but costly during the harder ones.

Even with this issue, Flexy Frogs is still extremely playable. It has a lot of content to offer and is well designed.
