This article is more than 10 years old.

IBM this morning said it has agreed to acquire Vivisimo, a Pittsburgh-based provider of big data access and analysis tools.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

IBM said that Vivisimo's software "excels in capturing and delivering quality information across the broadest range of data sources, no matter what format it is, or where it resides." The company said the software "automates the discovery of data and helps employees navigate it with a single view across the enterprise, providing valuable insights that drive better decision-making for solving all operational challenges."

Vivisimo has more than 140 customers. The company has about 120 employees, who will join IBM's software group.

According to CrunchBase, Vivisimo had raised $5.66 million in capital, including a $4 million Series A round led by North Atlantic Capital.
