Opena’s iPhone Case Also Opens Bottles

The Opena iPhone case is a Kickstarter project that was created by two guys from Australia, Rob Ward and Chris Peters. Kickstarter contributors backed it, thus allowing it to go into production. As a result we now have a sturdy iPhone 4/4S case that will also open bottles — some of my friends’ idea of a perfect world.

The case, which is available in black or white, is a hard plastic case with an integrated slide out stainless steel bottle opener. It fits AT&T and Verizon phones. It also fit my Sprint iPhone 4S perfectly, but it was very hard to remove the case. The MSRP is US$39.95 and is only available from the company web site

All four edges are covered, and there is a small edge on the front of the phone that allows the phone to be placed face down on a table without scratching the screen. The bottle opener is withdrawn into the case when not in use.

Using the product

The first thing to note is that this is a very sturdy case. The stainless steel bottle opener is heavy duty and the case is designed so that 1) the phone will not be scratched when using or sliding the bottle opener, and 2) there is no concern that either the case or the bottle opener will break in use. The phone, dressed in the case, still fits easily into most pockets: jeans, slacks, jackets, etc.

The bottle opener is also easy to use, it can be opened and closed with a thumb.

Do I recommend it?

I do. If this is the kind of thing that appeals to you or someone you know, then I can say that it is well made and will last and you should enjoy using it.
