Samsung To Include Nuance Voice Controls In Some TVs

Siri, your relatives are coming.

Nuance Communications this morning said its Dragon voice response technology will be included in Samsung' 2012 line of Smart TVs. The technology will allow consumers to use voice commands to change channels, search for Web content and connect with friends via Skype. The release notes that you can turn on the TV by saying "Hi TV, power on."

Nuanace also provides the underlying technology for Apple's Siri voice controls on the iPhone 4S. Microsoft is ramping up the use of voice controls its its Xbox 360 game console. Meanwhile, there is speculation that Apple will include Siri voice controls in the much-speculated, but unannounced, Apple-branded television expected to show up in the coming months.
