Farm Up is a game that will be familiar to many. Essentially, it's a 1930s twist on freemium games such as Farmville and its many spin-offs. What's there is a predictable experience but with some enjoyable story driven elements.

Immediately, players will notice that Farm Up doesn't hold their hand quite to the level of other freemium titles. It's still pretty clear what needs doing but in the early stages, it is more of a matter of actually reading tasks rather than just following the arrows. It's a change of pace for many regular freemium games but one that's welcome as it requires slightly more thought than the typical fodder.

Players tap on everything to interact with it. Planting is a matter of tapping on the shop to find the right seeds then tapping on the soil to plant before watering. All other interactions are similar with the player tapping on other characters to acquire tasks and progress the story.

Improving the farm is quite fun, although quite restricted by typical freemium tropes. Once the energy that's used to perform tasks is depleted, players have to wait it out for restoration. Planting things take time so players have to check back in once it's finished. While Farm Up is quite generous with such timings, it still stops the game from being one that players can spend hours with in one session. At least, unless they want to pay out real money for the privilege.

With the prospect of a more interesting story and setting than is usual, Farm Up is worth a look for those keen on the genre. It won't sway players frustrated by the time restrictions that are placed upon them. Ultimately, it is just more of the same with a different skin.
