Aaron Sorkin To Adapt Official Steve Jobs Biopic For Sony

A certain indie film starring Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs has been the recipient of a ton of press lately, but that little film is being put together by an ragtag crew with no experience, based off a screenplay from an unknown writer. That film is probably going to suck, but the movie being put together by Sony Pictures should get everyone excited because they just hired one of the best screenwriters in Hollywood – Aaron Sorkin.

Sony Pictures has licensed the rights to adapt Walter Isaacson’s bestselling biography of Steve Jobs for the big screen and it looks like they’re ready to throw some serious money into the project, first off by hiring the Oscar winning writer Aaron Sorkin who scribed The Social Network, Moneyball, The West Wing, A Few Good Men, and The American President.

Details of the project are scant, but Sony Pictures put out a press release this afternoon to announce the hiring of Sorkin to the project. Commenting on the picture, Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment claimed,

“Steve Jobs’ story is unique: he was one of the most revolutionary and influential men not just of our time but of all time. There is no writer working in Hollywood today who is more capable of capturing such an extraordinary life for the screen than Aaron Sorkin; in his hands, we’re confident that the film will be everything that Jobs himself was: captivating, entertaining, and polarizing.”

Back in October of 2011 Sorkin admitted he was really considering the job but details haven’t been made firm until now. The full press release from Sony Pictures can be read here.
