Intelligent Transportation Society of America Annual Meeting

WASHINGTON--()--Intelligent Transportation Society of America Annual Meeting – TransCore brings the ease of mobile computing to its TransSuite® advanced traffic management system (ATMS), launching its iPad® mobile app to manage real-time traffic situations. The mobile app is compatible with iPhone®, iPod® touch, and iPad® devices while a mobile app for Android-based devices is also available. Demonstrations will be in TransCore booth #512.

The TransSuite ATMS system supports large-scale deployments across North America, including recognizable installations such as the NewYork City DOT, City of Toronto, Nevada DOT, Iowa DOT, Missouri DOT, and Utah DOT, where the iPad App debuted.

No longer will agency engineers or managers have to be tethered to terminals or stationed at the Traffic Management Center to monitor traffic conditions and system operations. The App is designed for use by both operations and maintenance personnel while a publicly available app for commuters in select markets can be downloaded from Apple’s App StoreSM.

“TransCore’s developed mobile applications for customer-specific projects since smart phones and tablets were first introduced, but today’s public release now provides all TransSuite users with access to this easy-to-use and convenient mobile technology,” commented Bill Skillas, TransCore vice president.

For easy touch screen, mobile computing, the primary display is a zoomable, scrollable map view with data overlays. In addition to the map-based view, the application also provides list-based views of system elements, and includes an integrated web browser that can be used to access the TransSuite MOMS maintenance application.

The iPad mobile application user interface consists of a full screen display with a set of tabs enabling the user to switch between areas of functionality. The first tab, the ATMS Map, provides a GOOGLE MAPSTM-based geographic display. The map can be panned and zoomed just as in the GOOGLE MAPS application.

The application provides a map overlay of icons for the following system elements:

  • Cameras
  • Fixed-mount dynamic message signs
  • Portable dynamic message signs
  • Road Weather Information System Detector stations
  • Freeway links with colors indicating speed
  • Incidents, planned events, and construction locations

Tapping one of these icons displays a window with detailed information. For example, tapping a camera icon displays the current image from the camera, and tapping a message sign icon displays the message that is currently shown by the sign.

While the application is primarily designed for use on an iPad, and takes advantage of the large screen and other features of the device, it is optimized for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad devices and adapts to the current device to provide the best user experience possible on the given device platform.
