Apple’s Jonathan Ive Knighted in London

After being awarded the title of Knight Commander of the British Empire last December, Apple’s senior vice president of industrial design Jonathan Ive was officially Knighted on Tuesday.

The ceremony was conducted at Buckingham Palace in London, according to the BBC, and Sir Jonathan said the event was an “absolutely thrilling honor.”

Sir Jonathan received the honor for his contributions to industrial design, which includes well known products such as the iMac, iPhone and iPad.

In 2005 he was awarded the title Commander of the British Empire, and in 2003 he was named Designer of the Year by the U.K.’s Design Museum. In the United States he was awarded the National Design Award in 2007.

Sir Jonathan added that he is “both humbled and sincerely grateful” for receiving the Knighthood honor.
