''AtPlayMusic'' Makes Music Lessons Fun with New Video Game App for Beginners

First of its kind App now available on iTunes

MINNEAPOLIS--()--Picture yourself playing a 3-D animated game on your iPad and learning to play a real musical instrument in the process. Now imagine your children having so much fun playing their new instrument with the iPad that they hardly realize they are learning to play. Add to that, the pedagogy and content developed under the advisory of world class performers, musicologists, and ethnomusicologists. (See Video of App)

The “gamification” of music combined with world class pedagogy has begun to arrive at the Apple Store beginning with an interactive App for the ever popular recorder used by schools worldwide, soon to be followed by Apps for the electric guitar and more than thirty other instruments. “AtPlayMusic was created to take the negatives out of the beginner’s first experiences with their musical instrument by converting music instruction to gamification,” said Gary Meyer co-founder of AtPlayMusic. “Did you ever imagine asking your child to stop a music lesson and come to the dinner table? But this App is also for anyone who ever dreamed of playing an instrument but never got the chance or encouragement to do it.”

Users design their own avatar to assist them as they learn to play, also creating avatars for classmates to join in the fun—just like video games. A personalized animated instructor will coach students through their musical venture. The animated fly-through imagery in each lesson can be paused at any time to change the point-of-view, as players jump forward or backward in the game (lesson) at their own pace. The technology allows beginners to actually see inside the instrument to learn how it functions when played correctly, as well as illustrating what causes “beginner sounds” (not mistakes) and how to hit the right notes.

The product is available initially as an iOS app for iPad tablet with Apps for android operating systems to be released next. (See news video of students trying App)
