'Draw Something' TV Show Coming to CBS

This article is more than 10 years old.

Angry Birds isn’t the only “casual game” sensation heading to the small screen. CBS is going to be airing a pilot based on the Zynga Game Draw Something, according to Variety.

The pilot will be produced by Sony Pictures Television, Ryan Seacrest Prods. and Embassy Row. Nobody has confirmed a host, though it doesn’t appear to be Seacrest himself.

Zynga bought Draw Something and OMGPOP, the company that made it, a few months ago for the hefty price of $180 million. It’s a mobile version of Pictionary, where friends can send drawings back and forth to each other and guess the words people were trying to draw. Appdata reports that the number of users playing Draw Something through Facebook has declined dramatically since its peak shortly after Zynga bought the game, but it’s still a force to be reckoned with in social games. Zynga recently announced plans to localize it to 12 other countries.

Especially considering American Idol vet Seacrest’s involvement, I imagine there will be a lot of audience participation in this new game. Draw Something spread heavily through social media like Twitter and Pinterest, and I’d be surprised if we didn’t see players at home participating through those and other platforms.

Zynga also signed a deal with Hasbro to merchandise its wide stable of games, and has already worked with Telemundo on an unscripted series called “Great Escapes.”
