InterDigital To Sell 1,700 Patents To Intel For $375 Million

This article is more than 10 years old.

InterDigital, which for many months now has been looking for ways to better monetize its portfolio of mobile technology patents, this morning said it has agreed to sell about 1,700 patents to Intel for $375 million in cash.

The company said the patents relate to 3G, LTE and 802.11 technologies. InterDigital said that the deal involves "a small portion of our overall patent portfolio." The deal is expected to close in Q3.

InterDigital also announced that it will boost its stock repurchase program to $200 million from $100 million.

The company also said it still expects Q2 revenue of about $71 million, including about $9 million for the sale of four patent families in a separate transaction.

IDCC shares were up a penny at $22.89 before being halted for news. The company had a market cap of $1.02 billion prior to the announcements.
