HP Reportedly To Cut 9,000 U.S. Jobs In Restructuring

This article is more than 10 years old.

Hewlett-Packard is planning to cut 9,000 U.S. jobs as part of its previously announced plan to reduce global headcount by 27,000 worldwide by 2014, according to Reseller News. The story, attributed to "a source familiar with the company's plans," adds that HP intends to cut 8,000 jobs in Europe.

The story noted that HP declined to comment on the job reduction plan, and added that a further breakdown on where the cuts would be made was not available.

There has been widespread speculation that the cuts would be deepest in the company's services arm - in particular to the EDS business that HP bought in 2008 for $13.9 billion. But speaking as a resident of Palo Alto, I have to wonder how hard the reductions will hit corporate HQ here, where the company ranks among the city's 10 largest employers.
