Jennifer Lopez, CAA Launch iPad Dance App

Music and film star Jennifer Lopez teams with CAA gaming unit to launch a new game for the iPad.

Hollywood continues its crossover into the realm of tech, this time fronted by none other than film and music star Jennifer Lopez. Lopez has teamed with mobile startup Moonshark to offer a new game for the iPad called DancePad.

Already getting high marks in the iTunes Store, the game looks like a mini-version of Dance Dance Revolution, the game in which dancers attempt to follow dance routines to score points. In this case the only dancing being done is with your fingers, but the general concept seems to translate well to the tablet format.

Moonshark is the creation of Creative Artists Agency (CAA), one of the leading talent agencies in Hollywood charged with steering the careers of celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Robert Downey, Jr., Jennifer Aniston, and many others. Led by Harvard alum Matt Kozlov, who previously worked at Sony Music and Yahoo, Moonshark (formerly known as Creative Mobile Labs) is CAA's attempt to leverage its access and influence in the entertainment industry in the fast growing mobile games market.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Moonshark is also working on a game with famed film director John Woo to be released later this year.

Lopez's role in the launch of DancePad is as producer and marketing face, which seems appropriate given her well-known beginnings as a dancer on the television show In Living Color many years ago, and her current success as a pop music star. The original version of the game was developed a couple of years ago by a group of students from the University of Southern California's GamePipe Lab.

The video demonstration (below) of the game offers just the right amount of humor and creativity needed to stir interest in the new title competing in a nearly saturated iPad gaming market. The game itself is free to download, with additional levels available for $2.99.
