Sprint on Sunday rolled out its 4G LTE network in 15 cities.

The wireless provider lit up its network in and around Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, and San Antonio in a move that was last month.

Coverage in Georgia will be available in Atlanta, Athens, Calhoun, Carrollton, Newnan, and Rome. Meanwhile, in Texas, Dallas, Fort Worth, Granbury-Hood County, Houston, Huntsville, San Antonio, and Waco Sprint customers will be able to switch on the 4G network.

Kansas City and St. Joseph, MO are also included in the provider's roundup.

"This new network is performing extremely well and customers should find it consistent, reliable and really fast," Sprint's senior vice president, Bob Azzi, said in a statement.

In June, PCMag mobile analysts Sascha Segan and Alex Colon in five Atlanta locations, and the results were good for Sprint, but better for other carriers.

"Sprint's results are fast," Segan and Colon said, "although they're not as fast as the peak speeds we've seen from AT&T and Verizon."

Sprint's 5-MHz channels may be dragging it down, compared to the 10-MHz channels other carriers use in most cities. But in cities where AT&T is using 5-MHz channels (Charlotte, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Raleigh), Sprint becomes a tougher competitor.

The company plans to launch additional 4G LTE markets in the second half of 2012, which will be announced at a later date. By the end of 2013, Sprint hopes to have completed most of the built-out of its "Network Vision" project, which deploys multi-mode base stations across Sprint's U.S. cell sites to boost the network. The first multimode base station was launched in Branchburg, N.J. in December.
