Hulu on ATV — Death By A Thousand Cuts

Hulu came to the Apple TV a week ago and I was curious enough to sign-up for the one month free subscription. We attempted to watch one show and the experience was awful. Let me preface this review. I am not a regular TV watcher. I do not watch broadcast TV. I buy a lot of content off of iTunes and I make my DVD content available through my Apple TV. While I don’t watch primetime television, I do still occasionally catch the odd series like Eureka on smaller networks.

Here’s how Hulu worked on the Apple TV:

1. Four minutes of the show
2. Two un-skippable commercials for 3 minutes
3. Repeat 1&2 three times
4. Half way through the show the commercials start to come in blocks of three
5. Still only 4 minutes of the show before each commercial break
6. Stop watching the show
7. Cancel the free month trial

Hulu: Sometimes free is still too expensive.
