TiVo Announces Four-Tuner TiVo Premiere 4

TiVo has announced its new DVR, the consumer-priced four-tuner TiVo Premiere 4.

August 16, 2012

TiVo is introducing a new multi-tuner DVR to its lineup in the form of the TiVo Premiere 4. Like its name implies, it's a four-tuner DVR that can record multiple high-definition channels at once.

The company's newest DVR stands as the least expensive four-tuner HD product TiVo has ever offered at $249.99 (not including subscription fees).

The TiVo Premiere 4 is a scaled-back version of the $400 , which the company launched earlier this year. The Premiere 4 only has 75 hours of high-definition storage in the form of a 500GB drive compared to the Elite's 300 hours and 2TB of storage. Besides less storage, however, the Premiere 4 is effectively identical to the Premiere Elite in features.

The Premiere 4 has the same interface as the Elite, including TiVo's search and suggestions features. It can access Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Instant Video, and users can control it remotely with Android and iOS control apps. It can network over Ethernet and MoCA (Multimedia Over Coaxial Cable), and while it doesn't have as much storage as the Elite, it can use an eSATA hard drive to record more video. The Premiere 4 isn't THX Certified like the Elite, but it's otherwise just as functional as the larger DVR.

The TiVo Premiere 4 is available now at tivo.com for the aforementioned $249.99 price, in addition to a $14.99 monthly subscription to TiVo's service.
