Age of Chaos Review

 
Age of Chaos, by LVL6, Inc., is anything but chaotic. In fact, I am impressed by its linear throughline and clearly marked interface. When I enter the game, I see a swarthy young guy staring at me with a stern squint. He looks more like a comical buffoon of Rennaissance-y Disney prince “heroism” than a fierce warrior.

Next, the game opens into a movie-like scape. A brief and epic history resembling a prologue to a Lord of the Rings film plays on my iPhone screen, complete with fire, ancient weaponry, and lank, black war horses.

I am instructed to select and name a warrior. I choose a female warrior from Age of Chaos’s available warrior stash. I am disappointed to be greeted by the typical scantily-toga-ed, flame-haired sex goddess baring an enormous, abnormal amount of breast flesh, spilling out everywhere. C’mon, fanboys! Really? Every time??

Personal hang-ups aside, Age of Chaos is enjoyable to explore. Many times, games leave me spinning my wheels as I work to understand the trajectory of the overall game. My character will loop in circles directed by the push and pull of my fingers as I try to discern what I am supposed to go under, jump on, unlock, or kill.

In Age of Chaos, I earn a lot of satisfying time out of my initial play. I don’t have to work too terribly hard to earn some silver coins and accomplish tasks like building a fort, fighting a skeleton warrior named Dirk with my trusty bow and arrow, and stealing his weapon. Winning this battle rewards me as a novice player of Age of Chaos and spurs me on to the next task.

Age of Chaos is definitively marked, which adds to my enjoyment of the game. A glowing orange arrow hovers appropriately over my immediate task, and I am instructed to tap the icon. When I do, I move on.

Simple in its interface and easy to understand, play, and continue to play, Age of Chaos is a wonderful app that also employs generic yet detailed graphic and sound design choices. I am pleased with the outcome of my initial time with Age of Chaos, and I anticipate more good times spent in this little Renaissance wonderland.
