Microsoft Gives Logo a Modern Makeover

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) has given itself a little makeover. Yesterday, it revealed a revamped logo, tossing out the one its been touting for the past two-and-a-half decades.

Instead of the old italicized font and wavy Windows symbol, the tech giant has opted to brand its products with a modern look featuring straighter edges all around.

The move could be a way to symbolize that the company is still moving forward. As The Associated Press puts it,

“By revamping its logo, Microsoft is trying to signal that it has changed its thinking and its products to cater to people who are interacting with technology much differently than just a decade ago, let alone a quarter century.”

The company has been changing its thinking in other ways, too. It recently announced that it will be venturing into the tablet world with the Surface and also ditched its old email service for a new Outlook.com.

The company, although no longer the largest out there, still boasts a giant market cap and has seen gains of around 15% in the past year. It is also a member of InvestorPlace‘s Real America Index, representing its headquarter’s state of Washington.
