Blast-A-Way ($4.99) by Illusion Labs is a puzzle game that uses three-dimensional graphics to create a virtual playground of problems to solve. Explode blocks, teleport, and find all of the mini robots to earn the most points.

Players control a cheeky robot that must rescue his little buddies by finding them on a confusing obstacle course. To make the robot walk, drag your finger across the path. To make him throw a bomb, touch and hold the screen in the direction you want to throw. To complete a level, find the exit portal, but don’t leave without gathering the mini robot.

The robot will collect bombs as he goes through the course. He can only hold one bomb at a time, so make sure you don’t leave the one behind that you might want later.

There are contact bombs that will explode the moment they touch anything, teleportation bombs that will teleport the robot to a platform that matches the color of the bomb, and sticky bombs that stick to a precise spot on the block before exploding. Sticky bombs are good for forcing stuck robots to shoot across a gap and onto an accessible platform. New levels unlock new bombs that can be used to help the robot complete his task.

There are also color changers. These translucent “Color Gates” will help when the only bomb you have is a blue one, but you need to teleport to an orange block. Each level has a different puzzle to solve. Sometimes, you will need to figure out how to get a mini robot unstuck from a block without knocking it off the ledge. Other times, you’ll be stuck on a red block without any clear way to get to another platform.

There are five different worlds with 16 levels in each. The worlds are made up of different materials. For example, the first world is “”Wood Wonders” and the block graphics look like wood. There is a metal world, a fabric world, a stone world, and a plastic world, too.

There are three different robots that you will control at different times. Sometimes, three robots show up on the same level and each one is helpful to solving the puzzle in a different way.

There are plenty of casual puzzle games in the App Store. What makes this one stand out is the 3-D graphics. Players can twist, turn and swipe around the obstacle course to get a better view of things. There is almost no angle that can’t be viewed.

I highly recommend this app for fans of casual puzzle games. This unique take on a familiar genre makes it a winner and worth the price. If you like feisty robots and puzzle solving, this is the game for you.
