Infographic: Consumers Eager to Buy New iPhone

With rumors running rampant that Apple is gearing up to unveil the iPhone 5 next week, many consumers are planning to buy the coveted device, including nearly three out of four current iPhone 4 owners, according to a survey conducted by deal aggregation website TechBargains.com.

Apple this morning for a Sept. 12 event that is expected to include the launch of the iPhone 5, and it appears that many consumers are planning to buy the coveted device. According to a new report from TechBargains.com, nearly three out of four current iPhone 4 owners will buy the updated iPhone.

The survey of 1,332 respondents revealed that 74 percent of iPhone 4 owners are planning to purchase the next-gen iPhone. Meanwhile, 71 percent of iPhone 3GS owners are planning to buy it, as are 64 percent of those with an iPhone 4S.

Meanwhile, 38 percent of BlackBerry owners are planning to switch to the new iPhone, as are 32 percent of people who don't currently own a smartphone, and 22 percent of Android phone owners.

"When it comes to smartphones, Apple's iPhone remains the leader," Yung Trang, president and editor-in-chief of TechBargains.com, said in a statement. "What is interesting to note is the survey indicated that one in five Android owners and almost 40 percent of Blackberry owners plan to ditch their current platform for the iPhone. This could be construed as a commentary on consumer dissatisfaction with Android and Blackberry products or simply a message that the iPhone's user experience remains unparalleled."

Eager Apple fans usually can't wait to get their hands on Cupertino's latest products, with some willing to wait in line for days to be the first person to own the latest iPhone or iPad. This time around, one in 10 shoppers who plan to buy the new iPhone are expecting to wait in line the day it's released, according to the survey. Another 35 percent plan to buy the device online as soon as it's available and 55 percent don't have a set time frame for their purchase.

When asked which features they're hoping for, 93 percent of consumers indicated they want longer battery life, while 90 percent are hoping for a faster processor, 83 percent want 4G LTE, and 76 percent want it to have a bigger screen.
