Say What You See: Music Edition Review

As it should, given the point of the game, Say What You See: Music Edition's title sums up exactly what to expect while playing. Kind of like Where's Waldo but with cryptic questions, Say What You See: Music Edition offers players a scene in which numerous clues are scattered around. It's down to the player to guess the answer from the often very cryptic pictures.

For gameshow fans, yes, this is basically TV quiz show Catchphrase. It's also a very entertaining brainteaser with some attractive yet cryptic imagery. Each scene offers 50 different clues so I'd be hugely impressed if anyone managed to solve the scene in one session. Instead, this is the kind of game to return to throughout the day (and, potentially, future days). As I failed miserably at working my way through the Pop Music scene, I found myself pondering the solutions even while I wasn't playing the game.

Say What You See: Music Edition offers quite a sensible pricing model. One scene is free and bundled with the app, while 10 clue trials are available for 90s music, 80s music, rock music and musicals. It's just enough to give players a glimpse into what to expect while still giving them a reason to pay up $0.99 for a new scene. Given how long it'll take to complete, it's good value for money, also.

It's possible to also pay for hints which are, admittedly, extremely tempting at times. Remember though: you're only really cheating yourself and at a (small) price. The only noticeable flaw to the game is that the on screen keyboard for entering solutions is a little small and fiddly. Large fingers might struggle to be accurate at speed here.

For the impatient gamer, or the non-music fan, Say What You See: Music Edition isn't going to hook. It's a calm and quite serene experience that still manages to infuriate at times. It's also the kind of game that's ideal for a group of people to join in as, like with many cryptic puzzles, a few extra brains can go a long way to seeing things a little differently. Ultimately, Say What You See: Music Edition is a fun little time waster whether you play it alone or with others.
