13 Mind Blowing Numbers From Apple's iPhone 5 Launch

This article is more than 10 years old.

The media is cluttered with hundreds of articles on iPhone 5 launch.  Most of these articles are redundant in that they simply repeat the features of iPhone 5.

Not much attention has been paid to the following 13 mind blowing numbers that came out of the presentation.

  1. 83M retail store visitors from April to June
  2. 435M iTunes accounts with 1-touch purchasing set up
  3. 91% of traffic from tablets comes from iPad
  4. 400M iOS devices sold
  5. 17M iPads sold from April through June
  6. 68% market share for tablets
  7. 700K apps  in the App Store
  8. 7M  upgrades to the Mountain Lion operating system
  9. iOS 6 has over 200 new features
  10. iTunes has 26M songs
  11. 20B songs purchased
  12. 200M customers of  iTunes in the cloud
  13. 15B downloads from iCloud

Apple (AAPL) investors can take comfort in the foregoing numbers.  For example strong adoption of iCloud means a deeper and wider moat to hold on to present customers. The large number of credit cards on file can lead to development of iWallet.

Based on my method,   my long-term target for Apple remains $1000.  The probability of reaching this target remains unchanged at 60%.  However short-term risks have arisen as there was no pleasant surprise in the iPhone 5 launch.  There was no ‘one more thing’.
