BuildEdge, an Autodesk Authorized Developer, and the maker of BuildEdge ROOF for Autodesk Revit and BuildEdge PLAN for Trimble SketchUp, now has a Mac beta for PLAN available.

PLAN Beta 1.0 is specifically for Mac OS X Mountain Lion and works with the latest versions of SketchUp 8 with plugin support. BuildEdge PLAN is a software plugin that adds useful tools for architects and designers who need faster and surer ways to produce walls and sloped roofs on building designs. Anybody who has built up roofs in SketchUp knows how particular and time consuming manual modeling can be with such elements.

BuildEdge PLAN creates palette input-based entities that contain proprietary information in them giving them their advanced capabilities beyond normal SketchUp model elements. The program’s tools replace base SketchUp tools for items like Move, Select and Delete when working with the roofs and walls the program creates. For instance, you cannot group PLAN entities or turn them into a component without causing a problem with the proprietary information. Once these objects are created in PLAN the user can then run the Commit Model to SketchUp command, freeing them up for standard SketchUp commands and implementation into SketchUp components.

BuildEdge PLAN for Windows is 29.USD. The company’s website has several YouTube videos to learn more about how the product works. The PLAN beta for Mac is available for free now here.

Architosh Analysis

We don’t have that much to say about this product yet. It is something we likely will want to review in the near future. We are delighted to see an authorized Autodesk developer creating a native Mac software solution. And this looks like a great product addition for SketchUp users.

About BuildEdge

BuildEdge was created in 2010 by Keymark Enterprises to target and meet the growing needs of the design community. Keymark Enterprises have been a mainstay in the AEC software industry since the 1980’s with its builder-side software solutions like KeyBuild. Keymark itself is situated in Boulder, Colorado, where the SketchUp programmers also reside, making for a cozy connection between these two companies.
