BoxCrane Review

Dropbox is a wonderful cloud-based tool that I personally use every day to store and view files on different devices. The Dropbox mobile app for is great for viewing those files on the go, but it does have some limitations. That’s where BoxCrane comes in. BoxCrane takes everything good about the Dropbox mobile app and adds in some useful features that give users a little more flexibility when working with their saved files.

On first launch, BoxCrane prompts users to link their Dropbox account to the app. Once this is done, a few quick tutorial screens are shows that demonstrate how to take advantage of all of BoxCrane’s features. Each description has a short video that helps give a visual of how to operate within the app. The primary features that BoxCrane boasts over the standard Dropbox app include drag and drop to move files and the ability to sort and change names of files and folders. BoxCrane also supports the creation and unzipping of zip files.

There are many other features but I found these to be the most useful. BoxCrane also makes it easy to drag and drop pictures directly from the iPad to Dropbox by employing a split-screen interface. I really like how intuitive the interface is and how it takes advantage of the iPad’s screen size with its different viewing panes. During my tests BoxCrane sometimes took a little longer than the standard Dropbox app to load files, but all in all it does what it advertises to do.

I think BoxCrane could take the place of the standard Dropbox app on my iPad. With all the additional features it just makes sense for any Dropbox power user to adopt it. However, the price tag may be a little steep for some, especially considering it’s not a universal app. Both iPad and iPhone versions run over $3 each, although the iPad version is currently on sale for $1.99. Each user will need to decide if the added benefits of BoxCrane will be worth the premium. The app has many great features but I personally think the app needs to be universal to really merit the price.
