The iPhone 5 continued to make news this week, starting with word that Apple sold 5 million of the devices in the first weekend, and ending with Apple CEO Tim Cook’s surprise apology for the glitchy and unreliable native map app in iOS 6, the default operating system for the new phones.

But what is the phone actually like to use every day? This week on the GeekWire radio show and podcast, our guests — columnist Monica Guzman and app developer Alex Malek — share their experiences with the new device, talking about what they like and don’t like. They also answer the big question: Should you get one?

A former Microsoft developer, Alex is co-founder of Springy LLC, a Seattle-area startup responsible for FaceGoo and FatGoo — two fun apps that are very popular with the kids, with millions of downloads between them. More recently, he and his business partner Will Bradley came out with an iOS game called Wordplay, an addictive spin on the crossword genre, combining elements of Tetris and Scrabble.

We talk with him about those apps, the app business, and also get his take on Android, Windows Phone and Windows 8 from the perspective of an app developer.

App of the Week: The surprisingly fun and entertaining Dead Set will-creation app.

Alex also mentions the game HUEBRIX, and Monica talks about the Facebook Camera App, part of a broader move by Facebook to go native.

Name that Tech Tune: Answer to last week’s challenge was Britney Spears, “Email My Heart.” (I’m sorry — oh so sorry.) We’ve updated the contest post with the names of our winners.
