Implode 3D Review

Implode 3D isn't quite a diamond in the rough but it's going in the right direction for it, unlike many of the early explosions I created. A puzzle game wrapped up in a more explosive exterior, Implode 3D is quite challenging but offers a certain quality about it that will tempt players to return to chip away at another level or two.

Initially located on a construction site, players must arrange a demolition of certain obstacles, while also avoiding destroying protected items. Introducing various elements that form together to make the meat of Implode 3D, it seems quite simple. Physics play a very important role and, fortunately, the game reacts as one would expect. Plant a bomb on one side of a plank of wood and it goes flying in the direction that makes most sense. This hides a pretty challenging game though as later levels ably demonstrate.

Different explosives come into play, affecting how things work out and testing players' logical thinking to the max. There's a certain amount of trial and error here but it's fun and quick to have a go. Given the potentially very delicate nature of placing the bombs in just the right place, a picture in picture style approach is used, ensuring players can see up close as to where they are placing the bomb. This reduces any chance of frustration, although it can still be a little fiddly to line up the explosives just right.

Implode 3D is only really let down by its inability to change. It is roughly the same game throughout the entire 80 levels. The interface stays quite plain and bordering on uninspired. It's mostly saved through the challenging game mechanics that provide some fun moments. For those looking for more of a purpose than blowing things up for the sake of it, however, might be disappointed.
