Review: Incipio Feather Ultraslim case for iPhone 5

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Incipio's Feather line of snap-on cases has always been one of the best options for users who want good all around protection for smartphones but who want to keep their mobile's profile thin and light. This becomes even more critical on a device like the iPhone 5.

iPhones look particularly good without cases, but the reality is that they will get scratched, dented or damaged throughout the course of heavy use. The iPhone 4 and 4S were pretty scratch resistant because of the glass casing but everyone has seen what that looks like shattered.

The iPhone 5 is made mostly of glass and stainless steel. It seems to take drops and general abuse better than the iPhone 4 but it unfortunately has a tendency to get scratched.

This is where Incipio's Feather Ultraslim case can make a big difference.

It will cover the entire rear, the sides and even offer tiny border to protect the borders of the display. Incipio is even generous enough to include a clear screen protector, microfiber cleaning cloth as well as a little stand and everything comes in a nicely designed package.

The Feather Ultraslim case itself is made from high-quality trademarked Plextonium which is a sturdy resin that is precisely designed to fit the iPhone 5 without adding much bulk.

Unlike many cases we've seen for the iPhone 5, the Incipio Feather looks and feels like a precise match. All the cutouts for port covers, camera and volume keys are spot on, not too big or too cramped.

Inserting and removing the Incipio Feather is also an effortless and quick affair, one never gets the sense that you're forcing the case into the device, which is a sensation I've experienced even from more expensive cases.

The minimalist design of the Incipio Feather also has a useful feature. You can feel the surface and know where the top part is because there is a recessed channel covering the camera and flash. A nice touch to break the black expanse of the case but also gives you a tactile clue of where you are holding the iPhone in the dark.

I recommend the Incipio Feather case for the iPhone 5 to any user who wants protection but who also wants to remain as close to the  iPhone's intended design. In terms of quality, price and fit, it is the ultraslim case to beat.
