I’ve come across a lot of endless-runner style games lately. Some of them have been pretty good and some have been lack-luster. Fin Friends is one of the latest to hit the App Store and I have to say that this one is worth taking a look at. From beautiful, ocean-landscape graphics to happy characters, Fin Friends is a winner for anyone in the market for a new endless-runner game.

In my mind, all endless-runner games get compared to Jetpack Joyride. This may be an unfair comparison in some cases but Jetpack Joyride has become the industry standard in my opinion. Fin Friends doesn’t come too far off from that standard. The object of the game is to swim around, avoiding harmful sea creatures and rescuing all the little fish friends that have been captured by enemy nets. Not only must the character avoid stationary sea creatures, he must also avoid the attacks of the various bosses. The main character swims at a constant pace and gradually speeds up but it’s up to the player to direct the fish up or down to avoid attacks. Touching the screen allows the fish to swim up while not touching the screen sinks the fish to the ocean floor. There are items such as stars to collect along the way to help build up players’ scores.

As in all endless-runner games, there are certain goals that are necessary to achieve before leveling up. The goals are different at each level and range from reaching a certain distance to not taking any damage during a certain period of time. Completing three goals will level up the character.

The quality of Fin Friends is apparent in its graphics. The game displays a beautiful underwater world reminiscent of Pixar’s Finding Nemo. The artwork is very detailed and it's clear the developers spent many hours perfecting it. The game especially looks nice on any Retina Display device.

Fin Friends is definitely one of the countless endless-runner games out there that is actually worth picking up and I’ve really enjoyed playing it so far. For $0.99, the game comes as a universal app so players don’t need to worry about incurring an additional cost to play it on different devices. Fin Friends has a mesmerizing and addictive quality to it that will keep players of any age entertained.
