StubHub Announces Apple Passbook Integration with University of North Carolina

World’s Largest Ticket Marketplace Joins with University of North Carolina Athletics To Provide Easier Access To Events Through Mobile Ticketing

SAN FRANCISCO--()--StubHub, the world's largest ticket marketplace, announced today that University of North Carolina has been integrated into Apple Passbook. The integration allows fans to store Tar Heels athletic event tickets purchased on StubHub into Passbook, enabling them to use their iPhone or iPod touch as their ticket into events. Passbook integration will begin for University of North Carolina with their first home football game on October 27.

Last year StubHub introduced mobile barcoding with select sports team partners, including the San Francisco Giants. This season, through an existing integration with the University of North Carolina and Paciolan, StubHub began to offer mobile barcode ticketing across all mobile platforms. The integration with Apple’s Passbook will give iPhone and iPod touch users another option to access mobile tickets. Not only will fans be able to store their tickets on their phone, but they will also be able to get into the event using mobile barcoding.

"StubHub is laser-focused on providing fans with an innovative, best-in-class experience across all platforms; integrating with Apple Passbook is a huge step forward for the future of live events," said Ray Elias, Chief Marketing Officer at StubHub. "Through this integration with University of North Carolina and Apple Passbook, we can provide fans with a true end-to-end experience — from event discovery, to ticket access, all the way through mobile entry — via their mobile devices.”

"The University is excited to expand our mobile ticketing platform through our partnerships with Stubhub and Paciolan,” said Bubba Cunningham, University of North Carolina’s Athletic Director. “This mobile delivery option will allow Tar Heel fans to purchase, store, and redeem tickets to our events in a truly seamless process."

Passbook, introduced in Apple’s iOS 6 mobile platform, allows users to have the convenience of keeping all of their boarding passes, event tickets, coupons, loyalty cards and more stored in one place. The technology is simple for fans to use. Once they purchase a ticket through StubHub’s Passbook-enabled app, they have the option to “Add to Passbook.”

Once the ticket is added to Passbook, fans can easily access their stored tickets to see when an upcoming event is taking place and where their seats are located. Plus, Passbook is time and location enabled, so the ticket will appear on the device’s lock screen as a fan approaches the venue, ready for the ticket to be scanned at the gate.

StubHub is piloting the Apple Passbook integration with University of North Carolina and three other schools, with the vision to roll it out to the rest of StubHub’s 60+ partners soon after. Focused on creating the best fan and event experience, StubHub envisions Apple Passbook as catalyst for the future of ticketing.

The StubHub app is available for free from the App Store on iPhone or iPod touch, or at www.itunes.com/appstore.
