Zynga has churned out a wide variety of games for a variety of different gaming platforms. I’ve had to chance to play a good number of them and some are definitely better than others. Twist Pilot is one of Zynga’s latest puzzle games and is a worthy addition to the Zynga portfolio and the puzzle genre.

Twist Pilot is based on getting a little character named Phil from one end of a maze to the other without hitting any walls. Sounds simple enough, but there are a few catches. Fist off, Phil constantly rotates. This poses a problem when trying to fit through narrow areas within the maze. Players will need to time Phil’s rotations just right to avoid hitting any walls. Each time the user hits Phil against the wall his health decreases and a time penalty is added. Players must also avoid colliding into enemy spiders and other moving objects in Phil’s way. Fortunately, power-ups are available in some levels that will do everything from stopping Phil from rotating and changing his rotation direction. These power-ups can be very helpful if players find themselves in a tight spot.

Guiding Phil through the maze can be done fairly easy in each level as long as enough time is taken to wait for him to rotate properly. The second catch is that each puzzle needs to be completed as quick as possible to be able to achieve three stars. This adds to the complexity of the game and forces players to act quickly. A three-star score is also contingent on collecting all the gold coins that are scattered about the maze. Some are hidden in corners so players need to be sure to look carefully to collect all coins to be able to get three stars.

Twist Pilot comes packed with 72 different mazes that get progressively more difficult along the way. Players will need to earn as many stars as they can in each level to be able to continue to unlock more levels. If the 72 standard levels aren’t enough, the developers promise more to come in future updates.

Zynga is well-known for including a lot of in-app purchases in their apps to be able to play. Luckily, Twist Pilot costs just $0.99 without the need to make any additional purchases. The graphics of the game are sharp, the controls are easy and intuitive and the gameplay is simple yet challenging enough to keep players engaged.
