Time Management titles live and die on their ability to turn something potentially monotonous into a varied and entertaining idea. In the case of New Yankee in King Arthur's Court HD, this is achieved with aplomb. It's highly enjoyable with a constant supply of different things to do keeping players hooked.

Taking the role of a farmer who, while on vacation, gets hit by a bolt of lightning and sent to the days of King Arthur (yes, really), New Yankee in King Arthur's Court HD gets straight down to the nitty gritty. Players must work their way through 40 levels of the game, in a quest to finally return home.

It's a gradual process. At first, things feel a little too easy. The game explains the basic controls and techniques required with the player mostly sending their workers to collect resources such as wood and crops in order to build new homes and accrue more workers. Notably, New Yankee in King Arthur's Court HD includes the one thing that all Time Management games should consider essential: the ability to queue up tasks for these workers, reducing the monotonous tapping that other games suffer.

These regular tasks might sound dull but things get interesting quite quickly. New challenges emerge such as avoiding the evil goblins that like to capture the poor innocent workers. Huge statues in honor of the king also play a pivotal role, as well as spells that can be cast to boost productivity and initiate other bonuses.

It's that variety that keeps New Yankee in King Arthur's Court HD from feeling too predictable. After a time, it plateaus but by then, I found myself already sufficiently hooked to forgive it. A quirky storyline with some cheeky humor compounds the fun.

There's no Endless Mode for New Yankee in King Arthur's Court HD which is a slightly missed opportunity but the story mode will keep players entertained for long enough to be well worth the surprisingly low price. Especially when it comes to mastering each level to gain those all important gold medals. It's great to play a Time Management game that does mostly everything right. [Ed. Note: Not least of which is naming an iOS game after a famous Mark Twain novel.]
