White iPad Mini Sells Out During Pre-Orders

If you're looking to get your hands on a white iPad mini on launch day and you haven't already pre-ordered, then you better get ready to stand in line.

Just hours after the iPad mini became available for pre-order early Friday morning at Apple's online store, the white and silver model sold out. Shipping times for the white model in all storage capacities have been pushed back from the expected launch day, Nov. 2.

Pre-orders for the white model placed now through the U.S. online Apple Store are scheduled to ship in two weeks. As of Friday morning, the black and slate version of the tablet is still set to be delivered next Friday. Meanwhile, cellular-capable models in both color options are slated to ship in mid-November.

Those who really want a white iPad mini on launch day can, of course, go to a physical Apple store and brave the line.

Apple on Tuesday , which has a 7.9-inch screen with a 1,024-by-768 display. The iPad mini comes in at 7.5mm thin and 0.68 pounds, 23 percent thinner and 53 percent lighter than its 9.7-inch counterpart. "It's as thin as a pencil," Apple's Phil Schiller said.

The device is available in sizes of 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB and two color options: black and slate or white and silver. Pricing starts at $329 for the 16GB Wi-Fi version. The 32GB Wi-Fi is $429, while the 64GB will be $529. The Wi-Fi plus cellular versions will be $459 (16GB), $559 (32GB), and $659 (64GB).

The iPad mini runs a dual-core A5 processor from Apple. It supports FaceTime HD and features and 5-megapixel iSight camera. There's LTE connectivity, as well as 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi. Apple promised 10 hours of battery life. It includes the new Lightning connector found on the iPhone 5.
