When asked how the Kindle sales were doing following Apple's iPad mini event, Amazon told AllThingsD that "Wednesday was the $199 Kindle Fire HD's biggest day of sales since launch." The spokesperson added that sales were three times higher than the previous week's.

The implication is clear: after seeing what Apple had to offer, many consumers decided to buy Amazon's cheaper tablet instead.
