China Telecom To Launch iPhone 5 This December?

October 31, 2012
According to a recent report, China Telecom is planning on launching the iPhone 5 in December, having recently finalized negotiations with Apple regarding the carrier's launch of sixth-generation handset. The report, from Southern Metropolis Daily (via Google Translate) states that the launch of the iPhone 5 in China is  a "forgone conclusion," and that both of the country's major carriers - that is, China Telecom and China Unicom - could get the sixth-gen smartphone on the same day. As The Next Web notes:
The paper’s sources also suggested that China Telecom could get the iPhone 5 at the same time as, or possibly even earlier than, China Unicom, which was Apple’s first operator partner in the country. Both carriers are believed to be undergoing simultaneous testing of the device.
Though iDevice launches in China have, in the past, been fraught with chaos, the recent introduction of a third Apple Retail Store in Beijing hopes to take some of the pressure off other Apple Stores and Authorised Resellers. Being the third largest carrier in China, China Telecom bagged a massive 200,000 preorders for the iPhone 4S, back in March earlier this year. It's therefore clearly a priority for Apple to launch its newest, most powerful smartphone in China sooner, rather than later. As always, we'll keep you posted.
