While the top-five tablet makers changed little between the second and third quarters of 2012 — Lenovo replaced Acer in the No. 5 spot for the only movement — the percentage of tablet shipments shifted dramatically in the two periods, especially at the top. Here are the top three tablet manufacturers and their second- and third-quarter results, according to IDC analyses.

APPLE

Q2: 17 million tablets shipped, 68.2 percent market share

Q3: 14 million shipped, 50.4 percent

SAMSUNG

Q2: 2.4 million tablets shipped, 9.6 percent share

Q3: 5.1 million tablets shipped, 18.4 percent share

AMAZON

Q2: 1.25 million tablets shipped, 5 percent share

Q3: 2.4 million tablets shipped, 9 percent share
