Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on Monday lauded the deep and comprehensive hi-tech ties between the two entities.

In a statement sent to Xinhua by the Prime Minister's Office, Netanyahu said the comprehensive cooperation between the two entities was "natural," and pointed out that "Microsoft was wise enough to see its potential many years ago and to benefit from the quality personnel in Israel."

He added that the government's "investment in high-tech industries and in training people for high-tech will continue to succeed and bear fruit. I believe that cooperation between the State of Israel and Microsoft will continue for many years."

Ballmer, for his part, noted the computer giant's long-term investments and faith in Israel's technological sector.

"Since the early 90s we have made significant investments in localizing products in Hebrew, providing support and investment for various Israeli companies and partners, and, of course, growing our strategic R&D presence," Ballmer said.

Both sides are expected to renew a memorandum of understanding in coming days that will provide a framework for developing joint projects and fostering investment, according to the Globes business daily.

Ballmer, who is on his fourth visit here, said his firm will " continue to be committed to our investments in Israel, and to our role in helping people and businesses realize their full potential. "

Smartphone makers Samsung, Nokia, and HTC plan to introduce the new Windows 8 handset in Israel via local telcos in coming weeks.
